What do you like most about Georgetown?
While this may sound cheesy, what I like most about Georgetown is my fellow students because they help define my Georgetown experience. Hoyas never cease to impress me. Everyone I meet has an incredible story, and I am constantly amazed by what everyone here is capable of accomplishing. Being surrounded by such successful, compassionate and fun peers is extremely humbling. You Hoyas have made my freshman year so exciting and memorable that I couldn’t imagine going to college anywhere other than on the Hilltop!
What are your plans after Georgetown? Does this question annoy you?
This question does irk me a little bit. I am a freshman that isn’t even sure about what I want to major in. There is a lot of pressure to be successful after college, especially here on the Hilltop, which is why this question is so daunting. But it is a good question to ask because it is important for students to start thinking about what they would potentially like to do in their lives. My plans are to be happy, find a career I love, hopefully move abroad and brag about what a great university Georgetown is!
Do you feel you fit in at Georgetown?
Yes, I do feel that I fit in at Georgetown, although this was not the case at first. Initially, I was extremely intimidated and lonely, but once I got to know more students I started to feel more comfortable. Part of what makes Georgetown such a great place is that students come from extremely diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of interests, but are unified by their uniqueness. We are all special in our own way.
What do you do for “me time”?
I enjoy doing yoga (fulfilling the California stereotype!). Not only is it a great work out, but it is also extremely relaxing. With the stress of classes and worrying about the future, I rely on yoga to help me de-stress and focus my energies. Mastering a new pose is always a great feeling. I love going to Lululemon on Sundays and attending the Hoyasana practices on campus!
What would you change about yourself? What’s the biggest change you’ve consciously made in your life and why?
If I could change anything about myself, I would like to have better time management skills. A lot of my stress comes from not being able to do everything I want to do: missing out on events, not being as involved as I like to be and not doing as many of my assigned readings as I would like. The biggest change I have consciously made is to focus on the positive things. It is incredibly easy to get caught up in everything and focus on the negatives, and thus forget about everything we have to be thankful for. Appreciating what you have and who you are will make you a happier and more successful person!
