Shannarese Sims
Staff
Coordinator, Academic Resource Center
Age: 22
Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio
Time at Georgetown: 1 year
What drew you to your position?
I was just interested in the Academic Resource Center and how it helps students. I wanted to move to Washington, D.C., and I was interested in working at a university.
What do you enjoy about this office?
I like how helpful my supervisor is. I like my colleagues, and I like being involved with students. We help students with disabilities or with students who need help with studying skills. If I have a question about work-related stuff or just about living in Washington, D.C, my colleagues are always there to help.
In your time year, what’s something you’ve learned about Georgetown that you didn’t know before you got here?
I really didn’t know anything about Georgetown before I got here. I knew it was a prestigious university but I’ve found out it’s a lot more laidback and not as uptight as I thought.
How do you like living in Washington?
It’s a great city to live. I love living here. I like going to Busboys & Poets.
If you had to describe Georgetown to someone back home, what are some of the things you might say?
It’s a nice campus. I like seeing all the student involvement on campus. I like the people who work here and that it’s easy to get around.
