Karen Brown
Staff
Administrative Assistant, College Dean’s Office
Hometown: Suitland, Md.
Time at Georgetown: 12 years
What drew you to the job?
When I applied here, I was applying for Hoya Kids, the daycare center. I worked for D.C. Public Schools and I needed work for the summer, so that’s when they hired me here.
What’s the office environment like?
Laid back. We’re very quiet also in here.
Did you have any misperceptions about the university before you started working here?
I think some people think Georgetown is really uppity. If I mention Georgetown outside work people are like, “Oh, you work at Georgetown.” It’s not like that. People are laidback.
If someone knew nothing about Georgetown, how might you describe it?
Georgetown as a whole is a tight-knit organization. They try to keep the students and staff encouraged and motivated.
Do you have a favorite spot on campus?
The fish pond (outside White-Gravenor Hall).
Are there any events during the year that you look forward to?
Georgetown Day.
Do you have a favorite memory from any events?
Two years ago when Prince Charles was here. We were all out there when he arrived.
