Program Manager, Department of Human Science
Hometown: Washington, D.C.
Time at Georgetown: 17 years
What do you think is the greatest challenge of your current job?
I think space. Space is the biggest challenge, trying to get classes and meetings in… just in St. Mary’s. We’re limited on spaces. So that is the biggest challenge. A lot of classes need to be one day for three hours, and things like that happen due to the limited class rooms we have in St. Mary’s.
What is the most memorable encounter you have had with a student?
Well I’ve only been in this position for almost two years now. I was in a different department before for 16 years. I think the most memorable is how the students adapt to — when they’re student workers, how can they adapt to what our needs are? The times that we have to show them how to do some of the tasks, they usually pick it up really well.
What would you be doing if you weren’t here at Georgetown, if you had a non-academic career?
Probably graphic or digital art. That was my passion.
Do you think what you do is supported by the university? Do you feel that you are part of the Georgetown faculty environment?
I’m part of the appointment and promotions tenure committee here for NHS. I’ve gotten to know the faculty plus all the process of how they get appointed and what not. I do feel like I’m very part of it.
What is your favorite part about Georgetown?
I like getting to know the people. Not just the students but the faculty and the staff. Also how they are encouraging to learn all the time. Not just in the classrooms but to take that outside the class. They’re very accepting on my needs and my family’s needs and that’s really helped me thrive all these years.
